A rainy night

It was a rainy night on the May of 1985, the centennial year of the independence of Taryastan from Kanadorikan colonial administration. Outside the Palace complex, there can be heard a commotion. Yet the Palace dismisses it as nothing less than celebrations, after all, the country is not only celebrating it's centennial year of independence, but also Eid Al Fitr of 1985, the annual year and a special occasion for many Muslims who live in the authoritarian state. Taryastan, also known as the Social Republic of Taryastan is ruled by an iron fist under the dictator of President Tomsk Babagyani.

Babagyani had ruled with an iron fist, in 1965, when he first came to power after a sudden popular revolution which toppled Taryastani's post-colonial regime, he immediately installed himself as President of the country, centralized all authority to the capital of Gurbabguly. Babagyani then proceeded to purge dissent, encouraging violence against his opponents both former allies who supported his ascension to power and who he suspected. It didn't really mattered, all he wanted was complete obedience of the Central Hezranan country. In 1976, an attempted coup tried to overthrow his regime, but failed to gain popular support from within the military and ultimately failed to overthrow the Government. The coup resulted in a furious Babagyani who then orchestrated the massacre of approx. 6,000 civilians, in what became known as "The Devil's Moon".

In 1984, the Communist Kanadorikan government collapsed. Leaving Babagyani alone on the global stage as Babagyani's primary foreign backer vanished. This was also the same time as a group of officers plotted a coup against his regime. In a small warehouse in the capital, taking advantage that it was Babagyani's 65th birthday party. Right Wing officers of the Capital Guards met and begin talking about their hardships together as they face growing suspicion from them by Babagyani who will no doubt accuse themselves of contempt in the future, and they know that that will ultimately lead to one thing, death to their loved ones. The 1976 massacre is still fresh in the minds of all Taryastani. The lead officer rallies everyone in the room, inspiring them with words and promises that they will be victorious, and with that a coup was in motion.

Back to the current timeline, May, 1985, celebrations, a rainy night, commotions and then silence. For a moment there was no other voices than around the Palace and inside. Then it happened, an explosion, a few miles south of the Palace, in an industrial area close to the Old Square of Gurbabguly. The smoke can be seen from miles and it alerted the guards, but it was only a signal. Minutes later, fighter jets began flying low over the city, jet noises confused locals who ran back inside, fearing the worst, many stayed outside, for they are unaware and thought it might just be an exercise by the military. Elsewhere, north of the palace, the radio station was immediately seized, and troops wearing the badges of the Capital Guards, began storming into the residential complexes of the Cabinet Ministers under Babagyani.

In the Palace, the Presidential Guard began to take positions around the Palace, the President was awoken and attempted to communicate with the other branches of the Guards, including the Capital Guards, unaware of the Capital Guards involvement in the coup. Yet communications were disrupted. When the Capital Guards arrived after 3 hours, the PG (Presidential Guards) were relieved. Only to be back in shock after a gunshot rang, the coup had been successful in achieving complete surprise. The Capital Guards pushed their way through the Presidential Guard, easily mowing them down with more men and firepower. The President attempted to rally the remains of loyalist units to barricade his suite in a last ditch attempt to take control of the situation, yet to no avail. The Guards broke into his suite and dragged him out, declaring victory in their coup. What they don't get realise, is that Babagyani will escape and the coup will drag on into a deadly civil war.
